Getting Things Done - Not just at your computer, but elsewhere too
The goal of Easy PC Tips is to *hopefully* offer a bit of helpful advice, guidance and how-to’s on getting the most out of your computer. I also hope it will make people aware of new services, software and other products that make it easier to achieve things in your life allowing you to get things done more efficiently.
Apart from using a computer in a more effective manner in an aim to improve your productivity, there are a wealth of resources on how you can improve other areas of your life in ‘non-techie’ ways. I’ve been reading a number of different resources lately that I thought I’d share:
As a starting point, you really can’t go past the David Allen’s excellent book - ‘Getting Things Done : The Art of Stress-Free Productivity‘. I’m part way through my second read of this fascinating and practical book, which outlines how small changes to your daily routine, and how you manage your ’stuff’, can have large, life-changing consequences, enabling you to free your mind of the day to day humdrum and focus on the things that matter and get things done. Well worth a read.
A few other productivity blogs I regularly read, most of which also have a bit of a tech influence include :
- 43folders.com - by Merlin Mann (claims to be one of the most theoretically productive people in North America). Hilariously funny and full of practical, useful ‘life hacks’. I try and listen to or read anything that Merlin is involved with. Much of Merlin’s stuff appears inspired by David Allen’s GTD methodologies.
- Lifehacker.com - By Gina Trapani. Some excellent stuff here…
- lifehack.org - More of the same.
